Job status: Seasonal (June 17, 2024- September 1, 2024) 

Location – Lord Roberts Community Centre, various parks and playgrounds in area 

Purpose of the position: The Camp Coordinator will be responsible for helping plan and implement a 9 weeks camp program for children between the ages of five (5) and twelve (12) years old. Will be responsible for the overall delivery and organization of summer camp to ensure campers have a fun camp experience.  The coordinator will oversee a staff of four counselors and communicate regularly with the board representative and Lord Roberts General Manager.

 Salary:  $17/hr

Responsibilities: 

  • Safety of participants are of top priority;
  • Scheduling and managing staff so that guidelines and procedures are being followed;
  • Planning and implementing a weekly schedule for staff and campers;
  • Ensuring adequate health and hygiene measures;
  • Assist campers and their parents in a courteous manner;
  • Be adaptable to changing needs of day camp (i.e. weather, location change, staff shortages etc…);
  • Accommodate varying needs and interests of campers.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The candidate will be passionate about positive youth development, and understand the crucial impact of positive summer camp experiences. Will be a keen, self-motivated individual with experience providing meaningful activities and time with young folks.

  • Previous experience working in a summer day camp setting or working with children; 
  • Previous experience in a leadership role;
  • Decision making skills, effective verbal, written and listening communications skills;
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse cultural & economic backgrounds.
  • First aid certification would be an asset.
  • Access to a vehicle would be an asset.
  • Provide a criminal record check and child abuse registry check no more than 6 months old if over the age of 18.

 

Due to grant conditions applicants must be under the age of 30 for the duration of employment.
